Materials Engineering at the Materials Center Leoben
MCL's area "Materials Engineering" concentrates on the development, characterisation and the in-service behaviour of metallic materials and metallic-ceramic composite materials. Materials processing and manufacturing, e.g. the heat treatment of tool steels, as well as the further development and improvement of high-end characterisation methods for these materials represent central issues in our research focus.
The area is subdivided into the groups "Steel Development", "Hard Metals" and "Materials Characterisation" and has currently about 25 employees (who consist of scientific staff, Ph.D. students, graduating students and student assistants). The performed research is closely related to the central laboratory area "Internal & External Services".
